Good Wheel

A training program for new riders experiencing social disadvantage.

2014–2017

The Good Wheel Project was a collaboration between The Squeaky Wheel and not for profit social enterprise Good Cycles. The program provided participants with a bike in good working order, a helmet, a lock, reflectors and travel smart maps. Over five sessions, they received instruction in safe riding skills and basic bicycle maintenance. A number of practice rides around the city would build the skills of the riders until they were confident to plan a ride of their own.

Good Wheel provided essential transport skills and capacity to those who needed it most, intakes were largely made up of newly arrived refugees or others in the community experiencing disadvantage. The program was Highly Commended in the 2015 Vic Health Awards.
