Bikefest

A month-long program of events celebrating Melbourne’s diverse bike cultures.

2010–2013

Bikefest was born out of a collective desire to create a grass roots celebration of bikes in everyday life. The festival operated on a partnership model, in which programming took place within other festival and venue programs. Over its three years the program included a bike fashion runway, art show, bike craft market, the Better By Bike competition, tweed rides, forums programs, village picnics, street parties, bike polo, roller races, best in show, BMX jams, and many very big bike parties.

In creating a single setting to celebrate Melbourne’s diverse bike cultures, Melbourne Bikefest consolidated the city’s burgeoning bike culture to create a tidal wave of enthusiasm for the two wheeled pursuit. A heap of photos can be found at the Bikefest flickr page.
