Bike Spot
A digital project crowdsourcing perceptions of safety on a bike in Melbourne.
2016
A collaboration with crowdsourced mapping program Crowdspot, the Bikespot project ran for three months, collecting data on sites around Melbourne that riders felt unsafe. The data was matched with actual crash site statistics and a picture became clear of the difference between real and perceived feelings of safety.
The project received more than 10,000 submissions. A dozen of Melbourne’s local councils participated in the project, receiving data on riders perceptions of safety in their municipality, using this to inform their infrastructure planning and communications. The project received a Commendation from the Planning Institute of Australia.
